Review may be a little ranty?

That was the longest epilogue ever!

So I just finished this book, which could have been so much shorter. Not just the epilogue. Right from the beginning I was confused. OK so I didn't recall the previous books endings because I read them so long ago and refused to reread them because I was a little over the drama in them. But eventually it all came back to me.

So the first chapter in this book is told from someone else's point of view, not Clary's or Jace's or even Simon's, but Emma's. Who? That's right we're getting you ready to read the next series already. The Dark Artifices, which stars Emma! Not only was it someone else it was too long and drawn out so straight away I was bored and confused.

But it's not only from Emma's point of view, it's also Clary, Jace, Maia, Simon, Alec, Magnus, well everybody's. And this resulted in me knowing everything, the whole way through, there was no suspense (pages it took to get to the end doesn't count). No mystery.

200 page Prolgue/introduction, 200 page epilogue, some story in there....
Don't get me wrong.
I do love the story(that was hidden away in there), I thought it was a fitting end. But I had to force myself to keep reading through it all just so I could find out what happens with Sebastian.
It's just everything else that I had a problem with in this book.

Now lets discuss the epilogue. It started way before the book said the word. As soon as we come back from battle the author is finishing things up and making them pretty. Not everything has to be tied up with a neat bow. And. It's. so. Drawn. Out. And. Takes. Forever. Ok so 200 pages may have been an exaggeration but not by much. A lot of things in this book I found pointless.

No Feels

Not to mention I haven't read The Infernal Devices, but I know we are getting many references towards those books. Do I want to read them now? No, sorry.

I couldn't decide whether it was a two or three stars, so because I had so many negatives, and forced myself to read through it all I am opting for the lower number today.

Promise of Shadows by Justina Ireland - Review

Title:               Promise of Shadows
Author:           Justina Ireland
Publisher:       Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers
Date:               11 March 2014

Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changes when her sister is murdered—and she uses a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate.

Zephyr is on the run from a punishment worse than death when an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend (a surprisingly HOT friend) changes everything. Because it seems like Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess made flesh that is prophesied to change the power balance. For hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that.

But how is she supposed to save everyone when she can’t even save herself

I love a good book that takes away the rest of the world.

As soon as I turned the first page and started reading I was in the story and nothing else around me mattered. From the very first page the story flowed easily right until the end. Not only that but the author had me curious and I had to know more.

I found this to be well written and easy to imagine.

The world building was great. The Tartarus that was described was so easy to believe, when I look back it is like a real memory (thank goodness it was only a book).
The characters in this book were real. I could relate to them all. I felt for them all, even Hades.

The story is well paced, each mystery is slowly revealed as the story progresses, never too much information.

If your after a well written take on demigods with a wonderfully created world I recommend you read this book.

Sorry I had to write this review a few times because blogger was mean, and each time it got written worse.

Release Date Confusion

So I was just finishing up my June release post when this happened (cause this month I was nice and supplied links)

Ok so I found my book, oh yeah comes out June 24th.. or does it!!!

I looked at other editions, I hovered over them all to find that one had a different date.
It was Harlequin TEEN instead of Teen.. so I clicked on it, and sure enough it is the Australian version I needed, which isn't out until July 1st! so it shouldn't have been in my June new releases technically for me.

I've been using Goodreads.com but a few times it has let me down. I got all excited for the release of The Forever Song, only to get sad when the Aussie shops said I couldn't have it for another 2 weeks!

Don't get me started on the release dates for The Caller by Juliet Marillier, she says the print edition is coming out in June

It knows I live in Australia, but is there a way for it to show me the Australian version of the books first
If there is and I just haven't seen it in all this time please smack me..
I don't want to figure out which is the right version, I want the computer to do the work or is that too much to ask…

So my question is how do you find out when a book is set to be released (in your country)?
Do you just trust one website or do you check the retail stores etc…

Waiting on Wednesday ~ Talon

A weekly meme brought to you by Breaking The Spine where we get to show off some of the books we are waiting to be released.

This week I am waiting on Talon by Julie Kagawa

Expected publication: October 28th 2014 by Harlequin Teen

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
