Fuse - Julianna Baggott ~ Review

Title:        Fuse
Series:      Pure
#:                 2
Author:    Julianna Baggott

We want our son returned. This girl is proof that we can save you all. If you ignore our plea, we will kill our hostages one at a time.

To be a Pure is to be perfect, untouched by Detonations that scarred the earth and sheltered inside the paradise that is the Dome. But Partridge escaped to the outside world, where Wretches struggle to survive amid smoke and ash. Now, at the command of Partridge’s father, the Dome is unleashing nightmare after nightmare upon the Wretches in an effort to get him back.

At Partridge’s side is a small band of those united against the Dome: Lyda, the warrior; Bradwell, the revolutionary; El Capitan, the guard; and Pressia, the young woman whose mysterious past ties her to Partridge in way she never could have imagined. Long ago a plan was hatched that could mean the earth’s ultimate doom. Now only Partridge and Pressia can set things right.

To save millions of innocent lives, Partridge must risk his own by returning to the Dome and facing his most terrifying challenge. And Pressia, armed only with a mysterious Black Box, containing a set of cryptic clues, must travel to the very ends of the earth, to a place where no map can guide her. If they succeed, the world will be saved. But should they fail, humankind will pay a terrible price..

Once again we delve into Julianna Baggott's terrifying world of fusings, secrets and survival. A fantastic dystopian read that will have you wanting more.

Again this is a sequel, it is bound to say something about the previous book, if you haven't read Pure then tread lightly.

I really got into the multiple points of view in this book. This is told from four characters, Pressia, Partridge, El Capitan, and Lyda. You get an insight into everyones thoughts and feelings which I love, instead of the one character just guessing what the other people might mean. The only downfall is reading along as Pressia and something interesting happens and then we go to Lyda and you think 'noooo' but then you get into Lyda's part but then you switch to El Capitan and go 'nooo'. It's an excellent tool to keep your audience captivated and keep reading. Although I would have liked to see what Bradwell had to say/think throughout all of this.

You know how this is the most devastatingly disturbing book, well it still has managed to find something cute, his name is Fignan, he is a black box that was found in the previous book. he's just so cute, a bit like a puppy, but with a blinking light instead of a tail. And I want one. please..

This is a very well written book that is easy to get lost in. Yes it's disturbing, but it's because it has so much back ground filled into the story that you can't help but believe it all. And love it all, the world, the characters, everything. My words do not properly say how good this book is, so far it's one of the best books I've read this year.

Am really hoping the third installment delivers the same amount of intrigue, love and all those other feels that I have found in this book.

Still to come

  1. I love it when sequels are just as good/better then the first ones. :) Second book blues sucks to read. (I reckon, anyway.) I haven't actually heard of this series before! o.O I'm sooo checking it out then.
