Promise of Shadows by Justina Ireland - Review

Title:               Promise of Shadows
Author:           Justina Ireland
Publisher:       Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers
Date:               11 March 2014

Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changes when her sister is murdered—and she uses a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate.

Zephyr is on the run from a punishment worse than death when an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend (a surprisingly HOT friend) changes everything. Because it seems like Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess made flesh that is prophesied to change the power balance. For hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that.

But how is she supposed to save everyone when she can’t even save herself

I love a good book that takes away the rest of the world.

As soon as I turned the first page and started reading I was in the story and nothing else around me mattered. From the very first page the story flowed easily right until the end. Not only that but the author had me curious and I had to know more.

I found this to be well written and easy to imagine.

The world building was great. The Tartarus that was described was so easy to believe, when I look back it is like a real memory (thank goodness it was only a book).
The characters in this book were real. I could relate to them all. I felt for them all, even Hades.

The story is well paced, each mystery is slowly revealed as the story progresses, never too much information.

If your after a well written take on demigods with a wonderfully created world I recommend you read this book.

Sorry I had to write this review a few times because blogger was mean, and each time it got written worse.
